Hi All -
Since our reunions will be across the hall from each other, at the same times on the same days in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, there was a joint meeting today of members of the Class of '47 Reunion Steering Committee with members of the Combo Reunion Committee for the classes of '45 and '46, to synchronize schedules
. Present for the Class of '47 were Bob Bailey, Jim Bell, Gene Eberle, Dick and Sylvia Finch, Nancy Eaton Martin and Elsie Weaver Mears. Dewey Glasscock and Mike Kumpuris represented the Combo Reunion Committee.
There will be two hospitality rooms at the hotel, serving hors d'oeurves and drinks, open Friday afternoon and evening, and then again Saturday afternoon and evening, One of the hospitality rooms will be manned by the combo reunion and the other by members of the Class of '47. The Class of '47 needs to recruit couples to serve shifts in staffing their room.
If you think you might be interested in helping with the sixtieth reunion by helping s taff our hospitality room, please send an email to j22bell@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks, Jim
P.S. Photos of the joint meeting (at Julie's Restaurant) are attached:
EDITORS' NOTE--Got this from Mike Kumpuris or Buddy Coleman or Bill Hoffman (they didn't say) via snail mail yesterday (January 21, 2007). It was written in November as you can see. A note inside of the Combo Reunion Notice said it had sent to the wrong address & it came back, of course. The notice was SCANNED.
EDITOR'S NOTE--Got this from Mike Kumpuris of Cleveland Avenue via snail-mail sent to my old address. Don't live at 518 Spring Road, Westerville, Ohio, anymore. Live in Newark some 45 minutes away. The Classes are having a REUNION in 2007 so will put on '45 & '46 Class. It's orange with white strip at top & bottom because it's scanned!
EDITOR's NOTE--Got the following three letters by snail-mail. Scanned the 3 as don't have time to retype them, as should be, and put on LRHS Website. Think the scanned copies don't look so good, but will have to do. It appears by the first letter that the '45 and '46 Classes had a great reunion and turnout, too.. The following three scanned letters follow!
Editor's Note -- Bill Hoffman of the '45 class sent the following letter for the '45 LRHS Website site. Classmates should try to attend this Combo Class Reunion of 60 years!
Dear 1945 and 1946 Clasmates.
It's been 60 years since we haunted the Royal, Arkansas and Roxy Theatres, Walgreens, Fifth and Main, and went to football games as well as Swing Inn. Those wonderful memories will stay with us forever. Let's get together and work on a few more.
The two classes are holding a reunion on Friday and Saturday, May 20, and May 21, 2005, at the Holiday Inn Select on Shackleford Rd. and Markham in Little Rock and we want YOU to come. Rooms will be available at the Holiday Inn.
Your reunion is shaping up like this: Friday afternoon will be registration. Our Hospitality Room will be stocked and awaiting your visit. Friday night will feature food, music, and time for conversation till "auld lang resigns". Saturday morning we will inspect the million dollar renovation to our Alma Mater and then have lunch there. Saturday afternoon we plan a visit to the brand new Clinton Presidential Library. It's a beautiful and historic showplace. Back at the Holiday Inn, the Hospitality Room will be open for your pleasure. Saturday night we will enjoy the usual reception, dinner and music by the Bob Boyd Band. The Hospitality Room will be open after dinner till ??
We have worked hard to keep the cost to about the same as it was for the last reunion. Donations to help offset operating expenses have been received and we will, of course, accept your donation at any time... THANKS!
More definate information will be sent to you later along with your registration forms. Can you believe that we are 75...76...even 78 years old now? This gives us every reason to make this reunion a memorable success.
Remember...the 30 plus people who work and plan your reunion are having a whole year's worth of fun doing it. Join us now! SEE YOU AT THE HOLIDAY INN IN MAY!
Buddy Coleman and Mike Kumpuris, Co-Chairmen Call Mike at 501-653-0333 if you have questions
This is the 3rd letter and now we have firm information for our reunion Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, 2005 in the Holiday Inn Select on Shackleford Road and Markham in Little Rock. The cost is $55.00 per person.

[By Bill Hoffman] Dear '45 Classmate, Your REUNION committee is proceeding apace on planning your GALA 58th REUNION. Here's where we stand now: Our REUNION will be held May 2,3, 4 2003 at the Holiday Inn Select…the same hotel in west Little Rock we have enjoyed for past REUNIONS. The cost will be $60 per person…only a slight inflationary nudge up from our last one. This fee will cover the Friday night Mixer, the Saturday luncheon we are all looking forward to at the Women's City Club and the Saturday night banquet and "whatever you're up to ". Refunds up to two weeks before the event. We are enclosing an addressed envelope. If you live outside of LR, you will also receive a hotel reservation request. Response has been better that expected. We appreciate all contributions that many of you sent to help with planning our REUNION. Please tear off the form below and return to us ASAP as we need a head count quickly. Include a note if you can help in any way with planning and/or preparation. ____ YES, I am planning to attend the REUNION. ____ NO, I am unable to schedule this event now. ____ I wish to contribute to the planning and enclosing my check (all checks payable to Class of '45). Hope to see you all at the 58th REUNION !!! TO Top Classmate Named Commissioner Lt/Col Bill W. Hoffman (Retd) was elected by the Little Rock Board of Directors to be a commissioner of the Arkansas Museum of Military History. Grand opening ceremonies were held on 19 May 2001 after the renovation of one of the oldest buildings in the state. The museum is in MacArthur Park. The museum, which began its military service in 1840 as a frontier outpost, was returned to "active duty " to help honor all Arkansans who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the Confederacy and Arkansas. Col. Hoffman's great grandfather, a native of Germany, was stationed in this very same arsenal building with the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He also served five years with the U.S. Army prior to that. TO Top Meeting of Reunion Folks! (Compliments of Bill Hoffman -- 12/30/01) The class of '45 Reunion Committee started the Holiday Season with a full stomach with a dinner meeting at Cafe 1620 in Little Rock on 11 December 2001. Class members donning their gay apparel were : Pam Warren, Sara Meeks, Betty Boone, Mary & Paul Atkinson, Dewey & Betty Glasscock, Patricia Jacobson, Barbara & Guy Amssler, Bill & Suni Hoffman, Dick Homard, Edwina Atkinson, Mike & Christine Kumpuris, Virginia Gilmore, Pat Hamilton, David Pryor, Sam & Mary Saunder, Shirley Rainwater and Earl & Betty Stephens. A VERY short business meeting was held to discuss the '45 class reunion coming up in early 2003. We had already decided to go from a five to a three year reunion cycle in order to get a "quorum." The first reunion planning meeting will be held after the first of the New Year. Class members interested in helping plan the reunion are invited to contact Chairman Barbara (Mrs. Guy) Amsler. TO Top Class '45 Reunion Committee Meets By Bill Hoffman -- 2/24/02 The LRHS Class of '45 Reunion Committee met for dinner and a work session in the De Soto room at St Vincent Health Center on Thursday 21 Feb 02. Members present were: Dewey Glasscock, Ken Jones, David Pryor, Dick Homard, Earl & Betty Stephen, Bud & Katy White, Pam Warren, Betty Boone, Shirley Rainwater, Guy & Barbara Amsler, Mike & Chris Kumpuris, and Bill & Suni Hoffman. Reports and recommendations will be made at our next meeting concerning details such as wher, what, how much, a program and other details at our next meeting on Thursday 21 March 2002. We will again meet at SVI for a dutch-treat meal & lots of (we hope ) productive work as well as good fellowship. The '45 ladies are resurrecting their bi-monthly luncheons. The first will be held at the new Peabody Hotel also on 21 March 2002. All 1945 class members are urged to get involved and join the Reunion Committee. Your help will be most welcome. TO Top '45 Reunion Report! By Bill Hoffman -- 5/14/02 Report on the '45 Reunion Committee meeting held 9 May 02 at St Vincent DeSoto room. Dinner was followed by a work session with the following members of the steering committee present : Barbara Amsler, chairman, Bud White, Shirley Rainwater, Pam (Miss Arkansas) Warren, Betty Boone, Virginia Gilmore, Sam Saunders, David Pryor, Bill & Suni Hoffman, Earl & Betty Stephan and Edwina Atkinson. We prepared a letter for mailing inviting all class mates to attend the next reunion to be held May 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2003 in Little Rock. The Holiday Inn Select will again be our reunion hotel. We all remember those exciting and fun-filled Friday nite football dances and Spring formals at the Women's City Club. This beautiful old downtown building has been restored to it's former grandeur and will be the location of our Saturday Reunion Luncheon ! There will be a "Mixer" on Friday nite May 2nd. Dinner , as usual, Saturday nite and Dutch treat breakfast Sunday morning to bring the reunion to a close. For details email Dewey Glasscock : deweygg@pobox.com or call Barbara, 663-3060.
