TRAVELING TIGERS -Had a Great time Friday, August 20, 2008-- Where at
?? ? NLR--not an airplane....the 20 Tigers got an Education..... 1 1/2
hours later. Arkansas Weather Bureau. That is in NLR at the NLR
AIRPORT. We want to go next year. We watched the Hurricane Fay in
Florida and knew when the rain would start in Arkansas. We even knew how
much rain would be in NLR and LR in 1 hour. Want to know about
Rivers--call the Weather Bureau. No pay! That is right not one dime
out of my retirement, did I pay. Most of our entertainment and education
is no pay or not over two dollars. Now this is once a month. Not bad for
entertainment. We went to Little Rock Senior High and proud of it. Of
course every where we go we have to explain where we went to school. They
think that other THE 9 is the only high school . Miss OPIE is proud of
us--How about Jess Matthews, Mr Popes, Miss Middlebrook, Miss Griffin--We
say THANK YOU.
How about they are so smart to predict all he weather, how about they
are working 24 hours a day and they have a real person that answers you
on the phone. Thats' right no menu. No punch, one, two, three, etc. No, a
real person answers your question.,,,,,The TV and radio give the weather
by Computer--they get the information from the Arkansas Weather Bureau.
Now next year we are going again because we got 20 more Tigers that
could not go but have signed up for 2009. We have another TOUR you do
not want to miss in September. We 74 to 76 year old Young people are
going to school for an education. We know things our children, grand
children and great grand children don't know. I bet you did not know
where the Weather Bureau for Arkansas was located must less how smart
they are!!!!!!.. Can I say we know what the DOPPLER looks like. See you
Next Month for Lunch and Tour.
We had a ball Yesterday reliving good memories on march 28, 2008. Do you remember a
Birthday for Ruth--How about a ride on the Horse of a Carousel, How about the
Tigers, Monkeys and of course the "Fat Lady Laughing. Well, at 10 am we gathered at
the entrance of the Zoo on Fair Park Blvd. and was toured by Yvonne Ooley (Hurley)
and Eleanor Bogart Connley (1949). They are the Faithful Volunteers for the Zoo. We
rode the Carousel, --flying white hair and 75 years young,-- a little fluffy up
front and around, took a little longer to climb up on our horse--but still able to
be a Tigers--climbing on their favorite horse and squealed as if we were back then.
As we went up and down and a round, I saw across the street was the entrance to the
swimming pool where we were Ester Williams for a day. In fact I still have Hugh
freckles all over my arms and hands from the days of sun tanning. Has it changed? 0h,
Well in our memories, No!, -- it has got a better landscape in the Animal Kingdom.
More animals, than I remembered (in fact the Penguins are arriving soon) and poor
Ruth has gone to Elephant heaven. We went to her ancestral house and we all sang
"Happy Birthday" in memorial of our days with RUTH. Remember looking forward to
going to her Birthday Party. Now I am sure our 15 voices were ringing in their ears.
I did hear a few comments from the surrounding crowd chuckling. They remembered
Ruth and were explaining to their children, maybe grand children. A good mile in
walking and talking to the animals worked up an hunger stomach roar. The restaurant
which is in the Old CAT House had great food-It is OK- it was scrubbed clean and
shined. All the old WPA Arkansas Flag Stone is still there and is being used. We had
tables in one of the cages. A Mystery to us was a Hot Dog was $2.50 and the Cold
Drink was $2.49. With all this rain, can't be a shortage of water. Must be the
gasoline? The Hamburger was $3.50, de-li-shes, a cup of ice was 25 cents. Now I am
sure there was a good reason but who cares when you are a kid for a day. See if you
can ID these KIDS !!!!! Eleanor Bogart Connely, Yvonne Ooley Hurley, Carolyn Beason

Santa came early for the 1950 Class, last Friday, November 30, 2007. We started at 10 am with 1 hour of music by the "Hallelujah Squares Band"at the NLR Ladies Civic House in Burns Park. The Talented Band sang Christmas Songs and a rendition of melodies was played by Tim Gibbs on the piano. It really made for toe tapping and the class voices became the Choir. The Pot luck of food brought by the class was plentiful and Rachel Ray cannot cook any better than our group.
The Christmas Party was dedicated to our Classmates that have gone to a Celebration Reunion with loved ones. We have 104 Classmates that have died that we know of to this date. I am sure there is more that we do not know. The names were read from the year 2000 that have past on. Bill Word said the blessing and recognized our loved ones in the war.
The next Luncheon will be January 11, 2008 at Jules at 11 am. No Tours in January and February. March we are going to the ZOO. A Private Tour and a ride on the MERRY_GO_ROUND. Hopeful the "Laughing Lady" will be ready. It is a shame RUTH will not be there. I always enjoyed her Birthday party.!!Remember!!!!
THE CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR 1950 LRSH--It is November 30, 2007--at approximately 10:00 am ... the entertainment "Hallelujah Squares" start with --45 minutes of good fun. Then at approximately 11 am we set the food line in gear with Pray and the reading of our Classmates name that have gone to a better place and wait for our reunion---We are starting the season with Good Food and Entertainment at the NLR Ladies House at Burns Park, NLR. If you do not know where it is, contact me (e-mail or 501-758-5781). Then at approximately 11 am the Pray for Classmates who have gone to a better place and waiting for our reunion names will be read, Only the names of 2007. ..... Good food as you know we have good cooks. Lots of especial receipe. Bring anything you like it is Pot Luck---Now stay and visit with a good cup of coffee and maybe a little 2nd helping of desert Plan to visit, take picture, lots of laughter and most of all "REMEMBER WHEN".
1950 Tour to Petit Jean Mountain with Glenna and John Waller November 2, 2007
I bet you thought you had seen all of the "The Mountain". This is what the true natives call it. We were so excited to go on this trip with our own Tour Guide, the Great Great Granddaughter of Owen and Jane West, our own Glenna McIver Waller. In 1856 her Family took up squatters rights on top of the Mountain (built a home) except the cabin they built was in the middle of the now called Petit Jean Lake. The CCC boys had to move it further on top of the mountain. It is there today a one room cabin with a Historical marker "Pioneer Cabin". You have stopped many times to look at the cabin. I did not they had that many roads. Glenna took us to the Trinity Church (Little Church in the wildwood). Cemetery and the "RedBluff"--so many look outs, I got lost. 21 people and 5 cars in the Caravan, traveled the back roads and viewed the spectacular colors of Arkansas. You do not have to go North East of the U.S. to view the best. Save your money for the Ozarks.....
It was Oley Rookers Birthday 76 years and we gave him a surprise Birthday Party at the Mather Lodge. We present him with a small worn out Blue Berry Muffin, one worn out candle burning, to a worn out "two bodies Oley" and sang Happy Birthday to him. To his delight--he was speechless. 20 LRSH and 1 NLR grad. (but was redeemed because she went to Westside) and 5 cars caravanned the Petit Jean Mountain.. I mention this because Caravan was as much fun as the laughter in the Lodge. We were special Guest in the back "special Room" with awesome colors of "look out" mountain. You just can not describe.
Remember November 30, 2007 a Christmas Party with STAR entertainment.
Come see!!!
We have seen some interesting places since we have started our Tours of Arkansas and I must say we have not seen a bad one. Education is a wonderful thing--You know "if you snooze you loose". The older I get the more this has become true. This time the Tour was to the Alltel Sports Hall of Fame. Of course this is under the Alltel Arena, West Side entrance. Large parking place and a whole $3.00 each to see the the Arkansas Heroes. Except we did not have to pay and a priviate Tour was given to us by Ray Turner. Carolyn Beascon (Ringer) used her connections. You know it pays to know someone. First a 12 minute film, first Class by Pat Sumral. You just could not believe how many "Sport Heroes" from Arkansas. You could not believe how many Little Rock Senior High Heroes we had in the headlines. A great Bronze Statue donated by University of Arkansas of Coach Wilson Matthews. It really made you proud. He Coached from 1947 to 1957 at LRSH. We who had the good fortune to have gone to LRSH can remember those years. I have heard many a man who played under his Coaching say "Coach Wilson made a man out of me".
Of course it was Lunch after the Tour at the Wyndam Hotel. They have the best $8.95 lunch in NLR and LR. It is soup to desert. Now this was the "B" plan. Our intentions was the Salty Parrot Barge on the Arkansas River for our lunch. Reverservation were made and as late as Tuesday, October 27 confirmed. We arrived and it was closed---Yes, No sevice--. No one had called me to inform me of the closure. Now if the Resturants does not make it or the Arkansas Queen goes KOPUT--it is the employees- Not because of the vistors. We were there---YOU JUST CAN NOT GET HELP ANYMORE---WHAT HAPPEN TO WORK ETHICS

CHRISTMAS - - November 30th (last Friday in November)
At Burns Park in the Lady’s Club House. (Same place as last year) Potluck, so everybody bring a dish. We eat at 11:00.
A September 1950 Fun Time
September Tour (we always eat too) was so great, we did not want to
leave. I had a Mimi Cob Salad and a cup of Lobster Chowder. This is a
MIMI chain Restaurant from New Orleans. Now I usually do not brag on the
Chain Restaurant but this was a 5 star lunch. The Coffee was great too.
We had 15 for the tour, & to eat and Oley Rooker as you know is a big man
and can eat. Well he ordered a Ruben sandwhich and took over half home.
He said he had lunch 2 days.
We then took off at a fast pace to Heifer Ranch 34 miles out Highway 10.
We had visited at MIMI's a little late and we were going to be late for
the Hay Ride. A really beautiful drive, out by the Lakes and Mountains
with a touch of Color in the trees. Patsy Stokes Hodges, Wanda Timming
Shipman, Eleanor Shimek Mitchel and Joan Robinson Boles were with me. I
ask them if I was scaring them with my driving, they said no "we are
getting use to flying".
I must say upon our arrival we were on time by a hair. We met 4 more of
our classmates and got on the wagon for the Tour of Camels, Sheep, Hogs
and Villages Huts. Looked like they were ruffling it, at the Huts, and
learning about the third world. They lived there!!Volunteered to live
there 6 months to a year. I have been camping in my early life--going
fishing-sleeping bag with that rock in my back.--cooking out doors--The
best coffee ever--NOW it is Hilton camping for me--no rocks--. I did
enjoy the long neck Giraffe and much more. The Volunteer Tour Guide
(school teacher retired) did great. As a good tour with a little humor
thrown in. A neat film explaining where the Heifer money goes, since all
is supported by donation. I do not know about others but I approve.
Nothing is given, they work for the animal they receive. She advised us
she was much younger than us or was it older--well it was about 1 year
difference. Her Husband drove the tractor that pulled the wagon. Do not
know why they did not use the beautiful horses. See you at the Salty
Parrot next Month.
We have our Luncheon the 2nd Friday of the Month at Julies'. Then we go
some where at the end of the month. Julies is a neat place--like order
corn soup or Catfish--the hamburgers are good--Salad is OK- The little
Private room, is neat and the service is great. We can enjoy lunch and
plan the week.

TIGER TALES OF THE 1950 CLASS
TAKE ME OUT TO THE ball game, BUY ME SOME POP CORN AND CRACKER JACKS!!!!
YES, IT IS A FIRST CLASS BALL Park .DICKEY-STEPHENS , home of the
Travelers. North Little Rock taxed their self to build a Ball Park and to
expand the Senior Citizen Building. The Park is first Class and the
Senior Citizens Building with 12,000 members as of 2007 is the State of
the Art. You name it, they have it. Education, Exercise, travel, craft,
art, music, dance, language class, reading, coffee house, 2 swimming
pools, walking track, social hour, singing, band music, hoe downs,
cooking school and much more.
Little Rock Ray Winder Field was deteriorating and it was sad to see it
go but cost wise could not be repaired.
So, NLR picked up the ball, "we will build and they will come". About
6,000 to 7,000 is usually the ticket take. The night we went to see the
Travelers was on April 28, 2007. We had 6,000 and Alltel Arena, Rod
Sterling was playing there sold 7,000. Plenty of parking for everyone. We
have shuttles for the Alltel and $3.00 for parking for Travelers. We had
perfect seats behind home plate and up on the top, which was night far
from the bath room. When I say up on top, that means perfect two steps
down from the main floor. You have to remember it a Greek setting, so
everyone can see. The reserves were $8.00. My Social Security retirement
could afford the best seat. We gathered in the new Italian Restaurant,
Bill Valentine. He has been with the Travelers for 31 years. The food was
excellent. It was a great portion and I was really upset to leave half of
it sitting on my plate. The best Caesar salad I have eaten in a long
time. My advise is half a plate with your partner, which some did. They
were wise and it was plenty of food.
Travelers was founded 100 years ago. Now the oldest Professional Ball
Park.. It is still standing and LR has not decided what to do with the
Old Dear. It would be nice if it was now part of the Zoo and maybe have
Children Circus to perform Children happens.
Remember the Fat Lady who Died laughing that stood before the Merry -g-
round-, well she is coming back. So is the Merry-go-round. Yes I am going
to ride the Merry-go-round. I spent many a Sunday Afternoon on my
favorite horse.
Back to the Ball Park, --Sorry--- Bill was a former Major League Umpire
before joining the Travlers. It was his life and the restaurant is named
for Bill Valentine. Of course hot dogs,-Good Cold Beer--Peanuts, popcorn,
lots of women Clean Bathrooms etc.
NLR VOTERS approved of a tax for $32 million dollars, and it is a
beautiful Park.. It is the foot of the Broadway Bridge, NLR.
On Sunday, April 29th we gathered at the NLR Burns Park, Womans League
House which we had rented. It was a perfect place with perfect weather,
we also sat on the patio. There was a lot of talking. I would look a
round where laughter began, then eaves drop on conversation--do you
remember the . We noted on the table as you come into the door, there was
a picture of a Tiger--It was a puzzle with background in black. A list of
two pages of names of our class mates that were not with us. It was a
sadness that I always feel. I know the ones are here in this house now,
some will not be back next year. I constantly remember at each reunion ,
(call it Family ) that time is going fast.
Cell phones are really the thing we have all got now. If you have a
computer and cell phone you can keep up. You know the saying--You got to
use it or loose it--Of course by the time I learn how to use it, I am
already behind times. As my son said," Mom, you must be the last person
in Arkansas to get a PC and cell phone. I am not sure sending the kids to
college was wise. Sorry I keep getting off the track. Surprise, Surprise
you try writing all the fun we had in two days.
One of the neat things was classmates that could not come due to illness
we called them. The day before David Powell and Tom Lane both from
Houston called to say they could not make it. So we called them. We
wanted them to know they were there in spirit.
The Catfish/Chicken tenders dinner was outstanding. The Cold Slaw is the
best there is . We got the receipt of the dressing to give you--Mirc le
Whip mayonnaise, dab of real sugar, dab of vinegar, blend together and
put on cold slaw/mixed with carrots (all in the package at the store).
Hush puppies, sweet onion, kosher pickles, cookies, and lemon aide. The
catfish came from Spring farms in Mississippi. We have them cater us
ever year and they are the best. Cost you $10.00 a plate. Now you can eat
all you want but only on that plate. We pay them by the plate. We had
goodies left over and dished it out for the group to take home. Can not
have to much of this good dinner. Edna Lou Brodnax Green found these
Jewels. I think they cater at her Church.
The shock/surprise does not describe what the classmates did for me. Pat
Wilson O'Donoghueue is a talented lady with the PC. She designed a Plaque
in Black and Old Gold, framed, written in appreciation for my work. Now
do not tell the Classmates that I really enjoy them getting together. It
was beautiful. Then when I was getting used to this accolade, Betty
Pilcher Blacklaw gave a speech of how great thy are!! Embarrassed me , In
fact I really got choked up.. The more I got choked the more she talked.
I really do not deserve such great friends. . Then showed this
EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful Turquoise NECKLACE,BRACLET, EARRINGS, IT IS THE
DESCRIPTION OF Exceptionally ,JUST COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. You will see me
wear it for ever event. Thank you, Thank you. I can not say enough. You
all are to good to me.
Now maybe this is the time to explain our get together each month. When I
came back to Arkansas in July 1998, retiring from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I wanted to be close to my daughter, 2 grand daughters. I was lost. The
LR and NLR had changed. I was lost in the direction of places to see and
I did not have any old class mates, a widow, son in California , daughter
working. After you dust the furniture you get bored. I am not a soap
person. ... In 1990 they started a committee to work on our 50th Reunion
in the year 2000. I called Maybian Cooke to volunteer to work on the
committee. That was a friendship of all the ole classmates. After our
Reunion I needed some more fellowship. I discovered there was a lot of
people like me that did not like to go places or out to eat by my: like
me. The Luncheon once a month was born. We also, discovered there was a
lot of lost Tigers that we could have lunch with and have a few laughs..
A lot of laughs but we also support each other when we are sick. A
bonding of love took place. I would say we are the exception of the LRHS
classmates. I do not know of any other classmates that meet once a month
to have a few laughs. We try to keep up with the ones that are ill. We
send cards, call on the phone, go visit you in the hospital or funeral
home when a love one dies. It is called family. We are paying back our
appreciates for "THE LITTLE ROCK SENIOR HIGH" that once was.
Now for what is planned for the rest of the year. It was discussed at one
of the luncheon to have some day . We go to the races together, Murray
theater and join the LRHS Band group once a year. Archie Simms is
President of that group. We also welcome all classmates of LRHS &
friends, regardless of when you attended the school.
We are going to the Jacksonville Museum, Gann Museum at Benton, McArthur
Park Arts, Toltec Mounds at Scott, AR--Stuttgart Riceland Tour, Grant
County Museum,Sherdian, State Parks like Pettie Jean, Brinkley AR,
Arkansas Post, The Parrot Salty Dog Barg, and the lot more tours. We are
going to see Arkansas. A caravan of cars and you will note at each place
we go there is a restaurant to try. We are the Traveling Tigers. With a
group like ours there is always a adventure and story to tell at the next
luncheon. If someone, finds a new place we will go check it out. In May
we will be at Franke, at University Mall in LR. Franke might not be there
long. Progress moves on and University Mall on old Hays Street is being
prepared for the big Machine Destroyer, replaced with
apartments/business.
Then in June it is to Stiff Station, The Oyster Bar. In July The Salty
Dog. July our reservation for the Luncheon somewhere. We would love to
have you join us. If you are a out of towner passing through give us a
call and we will have lunch with you.
The prayers for David Powell, Tom Lanes Wife, Alice, William and Glenna
Haynes, Oley & Meridth ,Barbara Carter Clark & husband Bill, Bill Mayer,
Marilyn Green Rayburn, Geraldine Hester Maddox, and Leo Besser.

We had 33 at our Luncheon on February 9th at Julies. I always get so excited when new faces appear. The Faithful that come always makes me feel good. I get to see my old and new friends once a month. It seems the cold weather does not bother us 75 year olds. We know that you got to get out and be with friends for a few laughs. Believe me we always have stories to tell. We report on the sick and send them a "Tiger" card. Tell stories that give us "Remember When". Nothing like getting a card from old friends. It means we 'cared enough, to send the best, to the best. We had Raymond Johnson 1952, Ann, his pretty wife. They join our luncheon. He also paid his $20.00 for April 29, Class Reunion. We had Gene Wilbourn '50 and Jeannie Rowland Hophur '50 from Conway, Ark.
Now, we would like to remind any Grad or anyone that would like to come to our Luncheons orvReunion please know you are welcome.

April 30, 2007 , Board Bus for Nashville, Tennessee -- To be Announced time and place!
May 4, 2007 will return from the Tiger Travelers trip.
It is Tiger Tales again. The 2006 Reunion, well if you have it ever year its is a "Family Reunion". This is what we were feeling. Like in 2001--9/11-- happen when we were on our Cruise. I have said many of times, Thank God we were together. We had 74 Classmates that came TO THE REUNION 2006, and most of us will be 74 this year--Kinda gives you a good feeling. We met at Burns Park, NLR, Hospitality House. We had 1947 to 1952 Grads. I really love other Grads joining us. They said--"you all have more fun"; we agreed. Betty Pilcher (Blacklaw) and Albert Blacklaw (1949), son made up our Tee Shirts for the committee. The Lunch Bunch , which we call our committee, it is really, just go to lunch each month and visit. We all had the TIGER tee shirts on. The shirts were black with a BIG picture of the most beautiful TIGER on the front with his whiskers in white. I am sure some one got a picture of us. We were the "Tigers Roar" (You have heard of the cats meow). In fact we are thinking of getting some more made and put them on the LRHS Web. Of Course that will be talked about June 9, 2006 at Julies; (11 am). We can sell them cheap like $19.95 plus postage, (it is JERZEES brand50/50) to our other class mates. You know next year in February we are going on a "TRIP" -- You want to go with us--Put your name in the hat. No, we do not have a final day, nor money--Just start saving your pennies. After all we are just wanting to know if you are interested in going. Another thing we were diversified--Yvonne (Oley) Hurley, is writing a grant for the LR zoo. Now she needed to do a survey and get their signatures. Of course they were signatures from OLD people (retired). So we helped her out. Now, do not laugh. When you see the Penguins waddle at the zoo--that is from our Grant writer, Yvonne. Nothing but smart people went to LRHS. The visiting all day at the Fish Fry at Burns Park was great. I have laughed until my tummy is hurting. We had three of the men from the "Crosby Car" being lifted to the band room. Its OK to tell the stories now because "Miss Opie" is smiling down on us. Now if you do not know that story, you have missed it---better still the story of how it got down from the band room. How about Ed Saunders bag swing or the tree cutting that made the front page on the Democrat or was it the Gazette? Just think of your Dad reading a front page story about you? Of course it was also a good one that Tom Lane had a teachers skirt in the back end of his car while at "JC".
The teacher had to teach in someone coveralls, -- "JC", thats Junior College for those out of towners. You do remember the coveralls , don’t you!
We continued our visit on Saturday, May 5, a little sprinkle of rain. As we rode the Trolley to go for the Buffalo Burger at Cafe 42 at President Bill Clinton Library, more fun started. Now that was a hoot too. The first thing Morris Rose did was at 7th & Main, in NLR, was to place a penny on the Trolley tracks. We then boarded the Trolley, which was 25 cents to ride for Seniors--we crossed the Arkansas River, seemed funny to go from NLR to LR. Usually we did not cross the River---things have really changed in DOG TOWN. Looking down from the Main Street Bridge you can see a Razorback Submarine and a Arkansas Queen Wheel Boat docked in our River. Arriving at Markham Street, we transfer down main Street to a Shuttle (free), our tax dollars at work, headed for the Cafe 42. But before we could get there a SUV was parked on the tracks and of course we could not get by. Now that took all the experienced of 74 years old men to go help the cop solve the problem. We were going to make bets they were going to try and pick up the SUV and move it. The Lady cop stopped the thought or plan , as the case might be, and we finally made it to the Cafe 42. We learned later that it only cost the SUV owners $250.00 ticket. Just think the boys-----I mean men would have picked it up for nothing and moved it over--sure!!!!--. At Cafe 42 we had "The Buffalo Burger" with fried sweet potatoes, They were great. It is so thick and big, we all halved the burger. Its protein, with no fat. It took us 2 hours to eat because of talking over coffee. As we returned to our cars, after the return trolley ride back to NLR, guess what was on my windshield----???? Yep, Morris had left his calling card--a flatten penny he had found on the tracks. He had went ahead of us to find the penny. That really gave us a chuckle-- we retired to the Hampton Inn for a rest and get ready for Saturday night on the Boat. Also, a reminder, Hampton Inn served a hot breakfast with all the trimmings to the 1950 out of town group every morning. FREE
We boarded the Paddle Wheel at 6 pm first deck--inside the Boat was Carolyn Beasancon (Ringer), Albert and Betty (Pilcher) Blacklaw, Wanda (Timmings) (Shipman) were decorating the tables. Let me tell you, I sure hope some one got the pictures of those tables. When I tell you there was balloons tied on a string, Black and gold, with little Tigers on a black background with Gold shinny material. Really was neat. We all thought we were at the Country Club--The Captain Cast off at 6:30 pm and the paddles started churning.
The food was delishes--Prime Rib, (tender)Turkey breast (moist and tender), Shrimp Creole over rice (rice was cooked perfect), green beans , carrots, hot rolls, ice tea or coffee. Now there was a cash bar--Delish desert choc/nuts cheese cake--music was 1950-- we danced and had a perfect time--Before dark we got to see NLR and LR from the Boat, to the banks of the River--a little different. The sunset was overcast but pretty. Of course there was some more visiting and everyone was talking at once. I am amazed that the young people do not seem to all talk at one time and can not hear. Nor, can they hear everything. I guess it was our training in school. After all you can not tell your wife or husband everything that happen in school so when we get together all the good times come back in our memories--like William Westbrook, Louis "Bunny" Toney, flying planes and landing at the Tom and Buddy Herndon air field. Of course they herded the cows all over the fields before they landed. Now I bet you did not know that Herndon Diary delivered GOOD BUTTER MILK on those days. I wonder where the Control Tower was---Now thats another story--Adams Field Control Tower???????who is that hanging by their toes on the ladder. Write that down so we want forget. Before we left the boat or ship which ever is proper--we went out side and let the balloons loose, calling out names we remembered that had joined Miss Opie, Coach Wilson Matthews, Miss Pinkey, Phil Dixon, Ruby Thompson, Billy Beavers, Joe Dorsett etc---and what seemed just to many, but, remembered by us. Please see the Obit’s 1950 on the web page: LRHS Website -- http://netpluscom.com/~rhudson/lrhsindex.htm
Sunday was sleep late and go to Church. Some visited relatives and friends. The Band Men and boys rehersed for the concert at Hall Senior High. The Concert was from 6:00Pm to 8:00PM. Now you want to see grown men and women with tears in their eyes--this is it. Sing, Hail to the Old Gold. The Fight song-- We could almost see the band marching on the field, Cheerleaders jumping up and down Fight-fight, Football players rubbing Old Doc’s head for luck. Now, Joan {Robinson} Boles, really had the tears streaming. Jim Mckinney, ‘52, said he could see the shinny tears from the stage. The music was great, if a soar note was played we did not hear it. When they play "Star Dust’ and the "Saint Louis Blues March", I wanted to dance. I used to run over to the REC Hall, punch B-12 on the juke Box. Then the dancing started. In fact we had dance steps we had made up.
In those days, girls could dance together. Of course Milton Holiman, Joe Dorsett, and Robie Irwin took turns dancing with the girls. I am sure there was more boys.
After the concert more tears---It was a good concert but sad----We knew NO MORE LRHS CONCERTS--Age had caught up with them, just memories now. It is always sad when every one, begins to go back home and the hugs and kisses, feel twice as good--We all know that this could and would be the last time we would see some of those Wrinked Old Faces. The smiles in those faces, that we did not see, or will we ever get to see again. That is the hurt!!!! Keep in touch and keep us all in your prayers, until that time... Come for the next reunion. Its a "Trip’in 2007.....A lot of our questions at the every reunion is ..I wonder what ever happened to ?????? Why did they not come to be with us--are they sick--I do not understand the ones that live in Little Rock or in close by towns, do not come. You think the husband or wifes want let them? My answer is --I do not think they had fun in school---------Now that reminds me ..I just thought of that time when we were at Parkers Drug Store and..--OH WELL, TIME has run out, I guess I will write it down before I forget what happen at Parker Drug Store.

EDITOR'S NOTE -- Received the following from Betty Brooks Yarbrough about the Class Reunion in May!
..... THE 1950 CLASS REUNION ..... and all LRHS Classmates WELCOME to our reunion -- May 5, 6, 7 in 2006 .....
Every few years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it will be really grand;
Make plans to attend
without fail.
I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.
It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it
was swell.
The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.
The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at two-twenty-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.
No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping a tycoon.
The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted "least" now was a priest;
Just shows how wrong you can be now and then.
They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the big feast.
They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs!
At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.
It was held out-of-doors; at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us laid around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.
By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.
And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our fiftieth is coming, I'mn told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home forn the old.
Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty and I'm ready to party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun, but I just hope there's one
Other person who can make it that night
We are visiting at Burns Park Hospitality House,
Please come from 1:00 to 11:00, we will visit & then eat supper for FREE.
Now, we will tell stories and white lies, until we are done,
Then say Good Night, and start tomorrow with lots of fun.
It will be talking , and walking, with a ride on the trolly
Seeing the New Submarine, and yes, even the old worn out sites,
We will board at 6:00 PM for a dine and dance , by Golly
Yes, the Arkansas Bell will float down the river dancing to tunes.
Then it is back to the Hampton Inn-for Ice Cream and cake,
A little resting from having so much fun, and sleep late.
Then it is breakfast, and coffee, afternoon its LRHS Concert,
OLD men and women, will play that horn and drum for our sake!!!!
Yep, it's ending on Sunday, that Reunion for us Grads;
Looking forward in May when give those last hugs
Because next year some will be missing;
HUH, LADS, with a smile and a giggle, it will be
Another Class 1950 Reunion -- but celebrated up there.

Please be thinking of a place for March to eat. We had 20 classmates to

ATTENTION: IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED PLEASE IGNORE THIS reminder.
You will notice this is sent by the Little Rock Convention Center. They have
graciously mailed this for the LRHS 55th Reunion at no postage cost to us.
The Committee met February 11, 2005 at the Holiday Inn, Camp David
Restaurant and voted to send out a reminder of the 1950 Class 55th Reunion.
The registration has been really slow and of course we want to meet our
quota for the DINNING AND DANCING night which is April 23, 2005 at the
Wyndham Hotel . The Hotel is a 5 star and newly decorated. There is 35 rooms
blocked until March 15, 2005. We can not hold the rooms after that date.
There is so much to see and visit while you are attending the reunion. If
you have not been in Little Rock in a long time and for those that graduated
from East Side and West Side, the restoration is unbelievable. The President
Bill Clinton Library, ( the restaurant in the Library serves buffalo burger,
out of this world) River Market, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Razorback Sub
Marine, Alltel Arena, Patrick Hays Senior Center, Trolley Ride, Peabody
Ducks, Restoration of the Capitol Hotel, Drag Main Street and all the new
and old memories.
We are all the same age and should have gray or no hair. I say this because
we all have a few miles since we graduated, which is good. Hopeful more
wisdom and lots of stories to tell. We have a lot of classmates that have
lost their mates and a lot of classmates that will
not be here for the next class reunion. So get out your pen and send the
registration in the mail to Al Blacklaw, husband of Betty Pilcher
(Blacklaw). You will note the attachment to this letter.
You will enjoy the Friday night, April 22, 2005 that we have planned for
you at Burns Park Hospitality House. We have a all day affair (registration
at 1 PM) so that you have plenty time to tell those stories and brag about
the grand children. It is retirement time to just lay back and enjoy the
fellowship. After the Fish/chicken buffet dinner (about 5 PM) we will have
entertainment. Yes, surprise entertainment where we will have a lot of
laughs. Be sure and bring your camera we will not have a Professional
Photo.
The Committee has worked hard to give you the time to visit and see the
old and new memories of yesterday years soon to come.
If you are waiting on tomorrow it has past.
