Browser and Dial-up Software Installation for Windows 95
NOTE: Before you begin check your system to see if you currently have the latest
versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator installed. To check for Internet
Explorer look on your desktop for one of the following Icons: A Globe titled "The
Internet" would represent Internet Explorer 3.0; A Large letter E titled "Internet
Explorer" would represent Internet Explorer 4.0 If you have one of theses
browsers currently on your system you will NOT need to install an Internet browser.
Therefore you can go directly to step B. after inserting your NetPlus CD-Rom.
Insert the Netplus installation CD-ROM that you received upon sign-up.
After the CDROM is inserted you will see the Netplus installation menu. If you currently
have a browser on your system go to step B.
A. Installing Internet Explorer 4.0
In the menu click the Internet Browsers tab, then click Windows 95. Next select Internet
Explorer 4.0
At the Internet Explorer screen click on "Install Internet Explorer 4.0"
then click next at the welcome screen.
Select "I accept the agreement" and then click next.
Select "Full Installation" then click next.
select "No" to Windows desktop update. Then click next. You may
install this option later. To install later, connect to the internet and select "Help-Product-Update"
from the browser to update the software.
Leave the destination folder set to default, click next.
Explorer will begin installing files to your system. When completed, click "OK"
to finish the installation. Then click OK to restart the computer.
Windows will restart and begin setting up your system. When it’s finished setting
up the system the Welcome to Netplus Communications screen with appear. Click "Click
here to continue installation"
Next, Double Click on My Computer, then Double Click on the CDROM Drive. (NETPLUS
D:) D=CDROM Drive. That will launch the Netplus Installation Menu.
B. Installing Dial-up Networking
Click on the tab "Dial-up Networking Setup" this will install the
Dial-up Networking Connection
A connection screen should open with different dial-up access locations and phone
numbers. Choose the location/number that is local for your area and click OK.
Click "OK" on the welcome screen.
The dial-up software will install, when done press OK to finish the installation
and restart the computer.
C. Loging on to the Internet
After your computer restarts, double click on the Internet Explorer icon located on the
desktop. You will be prompted for your "User name" and "Password"
that you supplied Netplus with when you signed up for service. NOTE, you will need
to enter your user name and "NOT" your email address.
After entering the user name and password you can put a check beside "save
password" then press connect. This will dial the connection you installed
and connect you to the Internet.
Outlook Express Mail and News Setup
- Once you are connected and Internet Explorer is opened click on the mail tab,
then click read mail. This will open Outlook Express.
- Then you will be asked to select a folder where Outlook Express is to keep your mail.
Press OK
- That will launch the "Internet Connection Wizard" and prompt you for
your Display Name. Enter the name you would like to appear in the "from" field
when you send an email. Usually you would enter your real name. Example ,John Doe then
click Next.
- Next, enter you email address and click Next. Example, If your user name is jdoe
your email address would be jdoe@netpluscom.com
- Next, enter the E-mail server names. My incoming mail server is a POP3
. The incoming mail server is pop.netpluscom.com the outgoing mail server is smtp.netpluscom.com
then click Next.
- Next enter the Internet Mail Logon information. Check Log on using. The POP
account name is the same as your Internet user name or login name.
Click Next.
- Friendly Name should be pop.netpluscom.com Click Next.
- Click on "Connect using my phone line". In the field "use the
following dial-up connection" you should see the connection you installed. Example,
"New Lexington V.90 342-0431" click Next.
- Then Click Finish.
- NEWS
SETUP. Enter your Display name. Click Next.
- Enter your email address. Click Next.
- Next ,Internet News Server Name should be news.netpluscom.com Click Next.
- Friendly Name should be news.netpluscom.com Click Next.
- Next, Click on "Connect using my phone line" and select your Dial-up
connection then press Next . Then click Finish.
- Next , Select the connection you would like to dial. Leave the option set to "Don’t
dial a connection" and check the box "Set as the default startup
Connection" and press OK
You are now finished with your installation. Enjoy the Internet and Thank you for
