Have You Heard About CallWave Yet?

If you are tired of missing incoming phone calls while you are surfing the Internet, you should check out the services offered at http://www.callwave.com . They offer a program you can download to you computer that acts as an answering machine while you are online. With it, you won’t miss any more phone calls when you surf the Internet.

CallWave offers different premium services for a monthly fee, but their standard service is free. You can download the program for free also, so there is no software to purchase. You do not need a credit card to use their service; it is billed to your Ameritech phone bill.

Using CallWave’s Internet Answering Machine, you can save the cost of switching to cable Internet service or having an extra phone line. When people call you while you are on the Internet, they will no longer get a busy signal. Each call will be forwarded automatically to a personal voicemail box.

The best part is, you can then play these messages directly through your computer speakers. There is no need to disconnect from the Internet and call a separate number to retrieve your messages.

To use CallWave’s services, you’ll need to setup a service with Ameritech called “Busy Transfer Line.” It can be activated for a small monthly fee, currently less than $1 a month. Check with your local phone company for exact pricing.

You can also setup a caller ID service with CallWave to see who is calling so you can decide whether to take each call as they come in. If you were expecting a call, you can disconnect from the Internet and simply pick up the phone line. This premium service can be added for a small monthly fee which shows up on your Ameritech phone bill.

If you are interested in using CallWave’s Internet Answering machine, visit their website: www.callwave.com  and click on the “Get It Now” link in the middle of the page. For more information on the program, click on the “Internet Answering Machine Software” link in the upper-left corner.

Are You Experiencing Disconnects?

You shouldn’t get disconnected from the Internet when using our service. If you are, there are several different things you can do to fix the problem. The disconnects could be caused by a wrong setting on your computer, modem driver issues, hardware problems, or noise on your phone line.

If you use Outlook Express to check your e-mail, there is a setting that hangs up your connection each time the program checks for messages. To check if this setting is enabled, click on the Tools menu at the top of the Outlook Express window and choose Options. Inside the Options window, click on the Connection tab. If “Hang up after sending and receiving” is checked, uncheck it and click on the OK button.

Outdated modem drivers can also cause disconnects. A driver is the software that your modem or other hardware devices use to communicate with your operating system. At NetPlus we try to stay updated with the newest modem technologies. This means that you should update frequently also, to stay current with us and get the most out of your service. The easiest way for you to do this is to update your modem driver.

You can check the date of your driver by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop, and choosing Properties from the menu that appears. Click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window that opens. In the list there, click on the plus (+) sign beside the word ‘modem’ to display the name of your modem underneath. Double-click on its name to open the properties. Then, click on the Drivers tab at the top of the window that opens. You will see the driver date there. If it is older than this year, you should update it.

You can check the Internet for updated drivers for your specific brand and model of modem. The best place to find drivers is through the manufacturer’s website, or at http://www.driversguide.com . They offer a free service where you can search for the best, most updated modem drivers.

Different hardware problems can also cause disconnects. If you use a surge protector or splitter, try running a phone line directly from your computer to the wall and connect to the Internet. Also, try replacing the phone line itself with a new one. If the problem goes away, then you may want to replace the device that is causing it.

As always, don’t be afraid to call our technical support department for help. You don’t need two phone lines to call in and get help with your Internet service. Our technicians can walk you through settings over the phone as long as you are in front of your computer, without connecting to the Internet. They are friendly people who are happy to help each and every one of our customers. Our technicians will do everything they can to get the problem fixed through a series of phone calls or e-mail messages with you.
