Problem: My browser says it "Performed an Illegal Operation" each time I launch it. What could be causing this?
Solution: This usually means that the Internet Explorer software on your computer is corrupted.
There are a couple things you could try.
- To repair Internet Explorer:
- Click on the Start button, go up to Settings, and click on Control Panels.
- Inside the Control Panels window that opens, double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon to open it.
- Inside the Add/Remove Programs window, scroll through the list until you find "Internet Explorer and Internet Tools". It may also be listed as "Microsoft Internet Explorer..."
Click on it one time to highlight it, then click on the Add/Remove button at the bottom of the window.
- Another screen will open with three options you can select. Choose the second one, "Repair Internet Explorer", by clicking inside the little circle to the left. Then, click on the OK button at the bottom.
- Click on the Yes button at the bottom of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Repair window. A new window will appear with a progress bar. When it is complete, click the Yes button to restart your computer.
