Problem: How do you turn off the Preview Pane in Outlook Express?
Solution: By default, Outlook Express automatically shows the body of your e-mail messages as soon as
they are selected in the message list. This can cause attached viruses to open automatically. When the message
is opened, the text body is shown in a window below called the Preview Pane. The setting to turn this off is in the
Outlook Express Window Layout Properties.
- To disable the Preview Pane, open your Outlook Express program. Then, click on the Tools menu at the top
of the window and choose Layout...

- In the Window Layout Properties you will see the Preview Pane settings towards the bottom:

- To disable this feature, click on the checkmark beside Show preview pane to remove it. Then, click on the
OK button at the bottom of the window to close it and save your settings. Outlook Express will no longer
automatically show your messages or try to open any attachements.
