Bottom Feed Shelled Corn Burner

Testing the burnpot

The Details:
This is a burn pot designed to burn shelled corn as well as wood pellets. I like the idea of burning renewable fuels for heat, and corn is one you can grow yourself if you like. Part of my research is in alternative and renewable energy and this project fits right in. If you build a corn furnace, you'll need one of these. This is called a bottom feed burn pot. You'll find some detailed images above taken during different stages of machining and assembly so you can get a good idea how it is put together.

How It Works:
This is one of the important components of a corn furnace. Forced air enters the burn pot through one side and comes out the holes near the top of the burn pot to supply air for the corn to burn. The corn enters the bottom of the burn pot on the other side fed with a small auger and is pushed up past the air holes where it burns. As the corn burns up, the ash is pushed over the top of the burn pot, while more corn rises up from the bottom of the pot to be burned. The augers turn very slow and are set to feed more corn in at the rate it is burning.
