Have you read that book “the DeVince Code?” Do you think that it could be true?

Dear Janet:

No, I have not read that book and haven’t really decided yet it I’m going to. My understanding is that the book is a novel (fiction=not true) and that the basic story is that Jesus did not die on the cross but actually went and lived a secret life with Mary Magdalene in France. That the disciples, and later the Catholic Church, kept all this secret and deceived people for the last 2,000 or so years.

Since the book is supposed to be a novel, I wouldn’t have any problem with it. However, the author of this novel has been doing the talk show circuit saying that the story about Jesus is true, that Jesus really did go on and live in France. Now I have a BIG problem with it because people are actually starting to believe it. The sad thing is that this is not a new idea. This heresy has been going on for a long, long time.

The Bible is very clear on this issue. It states without question that Jesus died on the cross, he was buried in a tomb, and he rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. Look at these scriptures:

Mark 15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
Mark 15:42-46 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

The centurion verified to Pilot that Jesus was actually dead. There wasn’t anyone better qualified to determine whether someone was dead than a Roman centurian. Their business was death. Jesus was in fact dead. Here’s another scripture that tells us that Jesus was dead:

John 19:33-34 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

I read a book called the Case for Easter by Lee Stroble. In that book he interviewed a doctor who told him that the above scripture verified for him that Jesus was in fact dead when his body was taken from the cross. His reason was that at the time of death, blood will separate into red cells and plasma. That there would be a great deal of separated blood in the area around the heart. So, when the centurion reached up and pierced His side, first came out blood (red cells) then came out water (plasma). This makes perfect sense because red cells will sink to the bottom and plasma is always on top. I don’t think that John (the disciple that recorded this) would have had any knowledge of these facts. In other words, he was simply recording the events and the events verify that Jesus was in fact dead.

The first question you need to ask yourself is whether or not the Bible is true and an accurate account of the events that took place concerning the death, burial, and resurrection. Is the New Testament (NT) that we have today, the same as it was at that time? The answer is that the Bible is true and it’s been handed down to us unchanged for 2000 years. While I don’t have enough time and disk space to go in depth with this issue, I’ll take some time to explain why I feel so sure about this.

First, the NT that we have today is basically unchanged. There are over 24,000 portions of manuscripts of the NT that date from 50 to 300 years after the events described. When these manuscripts are compared to the Bible that we hold in our hands, no change. If you compare that to classical literature, there are maybe 10-12 old manuscripts that contain these writings, and they are at least 500 years after the fact, yet nobody questions the copies of these literary works.

So, if the Bible we have today is an accurate “reproduction” of the original writings. So, the next question is whether or not the original writings are accurate, or true, or, did the disciples and the church lie about the whole thing. When considering that question I guess I would have to ask why they would lie about the death, burial, and resurrection? What would they have to gain by lying? They were following Jesus thinking that he was going to be their “liberator” from the Romans, their King. When he died on the cross, they were in total despair and went into hiding. It was only after they saw the resurrected Jesus, spoke with him, touched him, ate with him, walked with him, that they went about Jerusalem and the surrounding area telling the story. If it hadn’t been for the resurrection they would have gone back to their old lives, lived peacefully until old age and died relatively unknown. But that isn’t what happened. They came to understand that Jesus had overcome death, that He promised them eternal life, and they willingly gave their lives to spread the gospel (good news of Jesus).

All of them but one were tortured to death, yet they still maintained that Jesus had died on the cross, was buried in the tomb, and rose from the dead. John was the only one that wasn’t tortured to death. He was horribly tortured but survived and was confined on the island of Patmas until his death. People don’t give their lives for a lie. Why would they, if they didn’t know for sure that Jesus had overcome death, then they would have no assurance that they would too. Why would they die for a lie? The answer is that they wouldn’t.

There are many other reasons why I believe the Bible can be trusted but I’ll stop for now. I’ll recommend some good books for you to read on the subject if you are interested.

Can you tell me where in the bible it say's that "Every eye will see him, and knee shall bow"? I had jehovahs witnesses tell me that Jesus already came in 1914.How did we all miss this great event???

Thank you for viewing the web site. The answer to your question is simple, we didn't miss this great event because it hasn't happened yet. When Jesus returns, everyone will know about it. For a more complete listing of verses see the page What Does the Bible Say About ...Second Coming.

First of all, when Jesus returns to earth, we know exactly where he will appear. We are told that he will return to the Mount of Olives:

Zec 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Acts 1:11-12 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

I think that people will notice when the mountain splits in two. He will have many saints and angels with him:

2 Th 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

And, as you said, everyone will see him:

Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Isa 40:5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Psa 97:6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Then every knee will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord of Lords (this is my favorite part):

Phil 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Isa 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Rom 14:11-12 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Rev 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

Rev 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Psa 22:27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

Psa 66:4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.

These events are not going to be done in secret, everyone will know about it. I hope you find these verses helpful. I find them exhilarating! The thought that everyone will one day admit that Jesus alone is Worthy makes me very excited and anxious for his return.

My name is Carol, and I have an urgent prayer request? My husband Philip was accused of a horrible crime, and He goes to court on the 6th of April. My husband is innocent of all these false accusations. We are born again Christians, and we know that satan is a liar, and these are the last days. I am reminded of 2 timothy 3: 3, and I believe that God will vindicate him. We are standing strong that they will throw this case out because of all the lies. They even turned the truth into a lie.

My husband Loves the Lord, and He is an awesome witness for Christ. We evangelize together for the Kingdom of God. We will not stop, because Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Our Jesus will rescue us from this. He has met another Christian in Prison, and they say they are Paul, and Silas. They pray together and worship, and Praise Our God, and people are coming to the Lord through this, and my husband counts it all joy for the Glory of God.

Heb 13:5-6 ... for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

What does the bible say about people who use and abuse alcohol????


Thank you for your question. There many references to wine as a good thing, a blessing from the Lord. But there are very strong warnings about drunkenness:

Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Prov 21:17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Prov 23:29-30 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Prov 31:6-7 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Isa 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!

Isa 5:22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

Isa 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

Isa 19:14 The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.

1 Cor 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? What scripture is it found about a man who does not support his family?


Here are two verses that are pretty clear on the subject:

1 Tim 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

2 Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
