Ascension of Mary:

Does Mary ascend into heaven? If so which Mary? And does it say this in the King James version?

Thanks for your question. I have found no reference in the Bible that would even suggest that Mary ascended into heaven. I know that is a Catholic teaching, but I don’t find it in the Bible at all.

Thank you for your question. As it turns out, this is a very good question and it took me more time to answer it than I thought that it would.

First, I think I’ll let Job define brokenness. As you will recall, Job was a very wealthy man and in an instant, all his material possessions, and his children were taken from him and later even his health was removed. Here are his words:

Job 16:12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder; he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

Human beings have a tendency to think that we are holding our lives together by our own power. We have a good job, we are eating right and staying active to maintain our health. The temptation is to think that we have things under control. But what we have to remember is that, like Job, that can all change is the blink of an eye. When all our own works and securities are removed, I think that is a moment of brokenness. It’s probably different for every person.

Brokenness it seems, is the opposite of pride, another word that could be substituted is humble. The Bible says that God hates the proud but draws near to the humble. Look at these verses:

Prov 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Prov 29:23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Jam 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

When we have pride in our life, we have no need for a Savior. After all, if we think that we are holding our lives together by our own power, what do we need a Savior for? Sometimes God has to “break” us, show us that we are not in control, that He is. Then we realize that we do need a savior. Jesus said that we will either be broken against the Cornerstone, or the Cornerstone will grind us to powder (Cornerstone=Jesus):

Mat 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

When you look at brokenness from that perspective, if gives the following verses a very clear meaning:

Psa 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Psa 147:3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

The Lord has some very clear promises for those that are broken, or humble:

Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Mat 18:14 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Jam 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 Pet 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

And since we started with Job…I’ll let Job have the last word:

Job 22:29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

Thank for your email. I don't know of any verses that say a spirit can possess a inanimate object. I know that they can dwell in people or animals (Mat 8:28-34) but not objects. In Ezekiel 1:20 the prophet talks about four beasts and there are wheels associated with the beasts and these wheels have the spirit of the beast. But since this is a vision, or a prophesy, I don't think that you could use this as an example of a spirit possessing an inanimate object. Here is the verse. You can go back to the passage and read it for your own conclusion:

Eze 1:20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels

Thanks for viewing the web site and taking the time to email. I'm not sure I can answer your question with a definite "yes" or "no." There are several places in the Bible that talk about animals having a spirit. In Psalms 104 it is talking about the animals and we see that the animals have a spirit:

Psa 104:29-30 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth

But that doesn't necessarily mean that their spirit lives on after death. Look at this verse:

Ecc 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

We know that man was created in the image of God and that man had God's spirit breathed into him and he became a living soul. That sets us apart from the animals:

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Another thing you need to remember is that there is heaven (a spiritual state of being where we are present with the Lord and waiting for His return to earth) and there is paradise earth or the new earth. There are many verses that lead me to make these distinctions, I won't go into them here because of lack of space. But it's clear in the Bible that there will be animals in eternity with us.

Isa 11:6-9 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

As believers in Jesus, we will spend eternity with Him. And there will be animals there. Now, I won't say that animals will be resurrected. For example, if your dog dies, I can't say that your particular dog will be in paradise. The Bible doesn't make any indication of that.

That's not to say it's not in the Bible, I just don't remember it, and I can't find it. Maybe, someone reading this knows which verse you are referring to. If so, please email me and let me know so that I can pass the information along.

Ecc 8:8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hat he power in the day of death; and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

Ecc 9:12 For man also knoweth not his time; as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

I'm not really sure what you are asking me. If your question is whether or not this was a sin, then the answer is yes, of course it was a sin. But, I think you already knew that.

Any sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage is call "Fornication" and the Bible is very clear that this is a sin. If you would like to look at the verses please go to the What Does the Bible Say About ...Sex page. The sin wasn't because your girl friend had not finalized her divorce, the sin was that the two of you were having sex and you weren't married.

The good news is that God will forgive us if we ask Him.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I would like to know several scriptures from the Bible on what the scriptures say should happen to a thief, and/or some related scriptures...... having had something stole from me.... I would like to give the thief something to occupy themselves with while doing there jail time and I thought a bible and some intentionally marked scriptures might help them mend their ways. I think it's a great idea to send a Bible to someone in prison. I think instead of marking verses about being a thief, it would be better to mark verses that explain how to be forgiven. Here's what I would suggest:

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

After all, if this person is in prison for stealing, he/she probably already knows that it is wrong. What they really need is to see how to be forgiven.

But, since you asked for verses about stealing, here you go:

Exo 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Exo 22:7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

Zec 5:3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

Prov 29:24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

Jer 2:26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

Mat 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

1 Cor 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (go on and read verse 11).

1 Pet 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

I was just wondering why the existence of dinosaurs isn't (to my knowledge) noted in the Bible. Scientist have proved that they were here. What is your opinion?

Thanks for your question. The fact is that dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible quite a bit. The actual word "dinosaur" won't be found in the King James Version because the actual word was not coined until the 1800s and the KJV Bible was translated in the 1600s. However, there are many verses that give us a description of animals that are clearly dinosaurs as we would call them today.

Here are some examples:

Job 40:15-18, 23 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

Job 41 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?...None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?... I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.... Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about. His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.... Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

The Bible also talks about dragons. I believe that these were dinosaurs:

Isa 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Isa 51:9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

Deu 32:33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.

Job 30:29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.

Psa 44:19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

Psa 74:13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. (and Psa 148:7)

Isa 34:13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.

Isa 35:7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

Isa 43:20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

Jer 9:11 And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.

Jer 10:22 Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons. (and Jer 14:6)

Jer 49:33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it. (and Jer 51:37)

Micah 1:8 Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls.

Mal 1:3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

I was told by a relative of mine that her preacher stated that god does not hear a sinner when he/she prays. Is this true or untrue and do you have verses to validate your answer?


That question does not have a simple "yes" or "no" answer. The Bible tells us that we are all sinners (Rom 3:23) and if we ask God for forgiveness through his son Jesus we will be saved (Rom 10:9, 13, and 1 John 1:9). So, we know that sinners can pray to God and receive salvation through Jesus Christ and God will hear their prayer and they will be saved.

However, there are many verses in the Bible that state that God hears and answers the prayers of the righteous and turns his face from the unrighteous. Why would we expect God to bless us and answer our prayers and supply our requests when we reject his Son or willfully sin against God? Here are some verses to look at:

Psa 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Isa 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Prov 1:28-29 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

The opposite from that is that God will hear our prayers and bless us if we love him and follow his commandments:

Psa 34:15-17 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

1 John 3:22-23 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

I just wanna see some verses from the Bible about the saints or statues and all those pictures of the Catholics. I just wanna know if they're part of idolatry (as in idol worshipping). And also if they're part of witchcraft.

If we are worshipping anything other than God, it's idolatry. The question then becomes, what do you define as worship. My dictionary defines worship as 1. reverence and respect paid to God or a god. 2. acts of ceremonies displaying reverence and respect 3. adoration of or devotion to a person or thing. If someone is showing reverence and respect , adoration devotion to a statue, then it's definitely idol worship. If you are praying to someone or something other than the one true God, it's idol worship.

The second of the ten commandments is extremely clear:

Exo 20:4-5 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Here are some other verses to consider:

Lev 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

Isa 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Rom 1:22-23 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

I couldn't say whether or not it is witchcraft. All witchcraft is idolatry but not all idolatry is witchcraft. If would depend on what type of worshipping is going on.

Hope that helps answer your question. I know there are those that won't be happy with my answer, but you can see the Bible is pretty clear on this issue.
