Eminent Woman Laid to Rest

Eminent Woman Laid to Rest Ohio's only daughter of the American Revolution, Mrs. Mariah Storts Allen, was borne to her grave in the city cemetery here Thursday afternoon, following funeral service at the Methodist church, and from over the state came representatives of patriotic orders, who added largely to the concourse of relatives and friends who attended the rites and followed the bier to the final resting place. Although it was the wish of the deceased that flowers be omitted at her funeral, floral offerings, profuse and beautiful, bespoke the sympathy of countless numbers and remembered her for the important place she had occupied in life, not only as a Revolutionary Daughter, but as a most devoted mother, kind friend and loving neighbor. Mrs. Allen was the daughter of Private John Jacob Storts, who served his country under General George Washington, in the struggle of '76. Words of condolence from over the nation soothed the sorrow of her loved ones, the expressions coming from all walks of life including those high in both government and society. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Elizabeth Sherman Reese chapter, Daughters American Revolution, at Lancaster, and many members were in the funeral cortege. The loss of Mrs. Allen brought mourning throughout the nation. |
