Descendants of Johann Peter Witmer & Mary Magdalena Overmeyer. Johann Peter Witmer, Junior Johann Peter Witmer, Jr. was born Jan 11, 1760 and baptized September 13, 1760 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the son of Johann Peter Witmer, Sr. and Maria Sallome Schuett. He was the fourth of twelve brothers and sisters. During the American Revolution, Peter served in Captain Balzer Orth's First Company of the Second Battalion of the Lancaster (Pennsylvania) County Militia, listed in the Eighth Class as Peter Wittmer, Jun'r. He is listed in The Official Roster of the Soldiers of the American Revolution Buried in the State of Ohio, Volume 1, page 397. He married Mary Magdalene Overmeyer on Dec 19, 1787 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Captain John George Overmeyer and Anna Barbara Vogt. They had eleven children. Peter's father, Johann Peter Witmer, Sr. served in the American Revolution in the Third Battalion, Northumberland County (Pennsylvania) Militia. His future father-in-law, Captain John George Overmeyer, served before, during, and after the Revolution in uniform. His future mother-in-law, Anna Barbara Vogt, performed public service during the Revolution by preparing American soldiers' bodies for burial. Peter and Mary Magdalene moved to Ohio in 1800, to Fairfield County in 1802, and settled in Reading Township. Perry County was formed from Fairfield County in 1818. |
