This award was announced at the 116th. SAR National Congress in Dallas, Texas, during the National Congress. (July 8-12, 2006) The "President General's Activities Award", was personally signed by President General Roland D. Downing of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution.

Benjamin Franklin visits Rufus Putnam Chapter

On Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, members and guests of the Rufus Putnam Chapter, OHSSAR, were entertained by Benjamin Franklin (Richard Q. Fowler), a member of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter, Ohio Society SAR, of Columbus, Ohio. Compatriot Fowler (Ben) provided a pleasurable program for all to enjoy! Shown with Ben is Doug Miller, of Somerset, Ohio. Doug attended with his wife, Bonnie, and his mother. Mr. Miller is a past president of the Perry County Historical Society.

The Great Signing!

Brian took us back in time to the late 1700's where we signed the SAR Applications at the very end of the Revolutionary War. Brian is wearing his calico dress shirt and I am in my field apparel.

Michigan Compatriots attend Grave Marking

On Sunday - September 10, 2006, an SAR Patriot Grave Marking was held in honor of Revolutionary War Patriot - John Peter Obermeier, hosted by the Rufus Putnam Chapter, Ohio Society SAR.

It was an honor having two distinguished Michigan Society SAR Compatriots participate in the ceremony. Hats off to Compatriot Gerald Burkland (left) President of the Michigan Society - Sons of the American Revolution, and to Compatriot Richard Steele (right) a former Vice President General of the Mid-Atlantic District, National Society - Sons of the American Revolution.

Compatriots Burkland and Steele, drove 7 hours to arrive in Perry County, Ohio, the night before the dedication. They were the special guests of Keith & June Kaufman, who enjoyed their company and friendship. Another fine example of "Promoting fellowship among the descendants" of the American Revolution!

It was Mr. Kaufman's pleasure to attend this SAR National Historic Event, at Martin's Station. It was the first year to be recognized by the N.S.S.A.R. Compatriot Kaufman ..enjoyed wandering about the park, reciting Patrick Henry's - "A Call To Arms". Many filmed and took pictures of his recital. While others asked to have their pictures taken with him. Kaufman hopes to attend again and Camp the next time!

Sons of the American Revolution Present Colors at Mrs. Ohio America 2006 Pageant.

The Ohio Society Sons of the American Revolution, were asked by Mrs. Ohio America 2005 ~ Mrs. Rhonda Shappert, to attend and present the colors, at the recent Mrs. Ohio America 2006 Pageant, held at the Concourse Hotel, in Columbus, Ohio. After the Sons of the American Revolution presented the colors, Mrs. Rhonda Shappert sang the Star Spangled Banner!

Mrs. Ohio America 2005 - Rhonda Shappert, made numerous appearances in Perry County, Ohio, during her reign. And the Sons of the American Revolution, made many appearances with her during her special school programs supporting the National Anthem Project. In an effort to educate students about the meaning of the words to the Star Spangled Banner. And, where and why, it was written by Francis Scott Key, during the War of 1812.

Mrs. Ohio America 2005 - Mrs. Rhonda Shappert, had the honor of crowning Mrs. Lisa Piepsny, "Mrs. Cuyahoga County", as Mrs. Ohio America 2006. Mrs. Piepsny is the mother of two children. Colonist Escorts a Popular Queen! 

Colonist Keith Kaufman, shown with his Queen, Mrs. Ohio America 2005 ~ Rhonda Shappert, prior to leading the Pottery Festival Parade in Roseville, Ohio. (15 July 2006). Mrs. Shappert served as the "Grand Marshal" of the Crooksville / Roseville Pottery Festival. It was the 41 st. anniversary of the Pottery Festival and Parade! It was a Pleasure for Keith to drive Mrs. Ohio in the Parade, as it was his first time driving in a parade. It was also a pleasure to drive the new 2006 Ford Mustang GT Convertible, courtesy of Frank Newlon, of Newlon Auto Group, located in New Lexington, Ohio.

This was the first such event organized by the Rufus Putnam Chapter, originally founded on 8 April 1895, in Zanesville, Ohio. Compatriot John H. It was great having Jim Coffey, a member of the "Brigade of the American Revolution" ( BAR ), to present a musket firing demonstration and historic account .. about the American Revolution, from a British point of view ~ while attending the Rufus Putnam Chapter's - first SAR - DAR - C.A.R. ~ PAL-WOW. Morgan High School ~ Morgan County, Ohio

Mrs. Ohio America ~ presents a living history account of the founding of America - during the Revolutionary War, and the history surrounding the creation of America's National Anthem - during the War of 1812, when Francis Scott Key was held aboard a Prisoners Ship, and envisioned the Star Spangled Banner ~ as the Battle Raged --> between the British and the Americans. Mrs. Ohio explains what he saw, and how it translated into becoming our National Anthem. As part of her program, she included Keith Kaufman, President of the Rufus Putnam Chapter, Ohio Society - Sons of the American Revolution, based in Zanesville, Ohio, to present his recital of Patrick Henry's ~ A Call To Arms.

Memorial Day Service, Zanesville, Ohio - 2006

The Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution, Combined Color Guard, as seen coming out of the Historic Covered Bridge located on the Perry County Fairgrounds, New Lexington, Ohio!  This Ohio Bicentennial Event, took place 15 July 2003, in honor of Mariah Storts Allen, who has the distinction of being Ohio's last DAR "Real Daughter" of an American Revolutionary War soldier. The Purposes of the Sons of the American Revolution are patriotic, historical and educational. This includes ~ "Inspiring the Community with a reverence for the principals of government founded by our forefathers". We thank the Children of New Lexington - Middle School, known as the "Signing Patriots" for their fine display of "Patriotism", as they performed the "Pledge of Allegiance".

The replica "Revolutionary War Canon" is owned by the Clark County Park Service, in Springfield, Ohio. It was fired by a 6 member cannon crew! All are members of the "George Rogers Clark Heritage Association".

Sons and Daughters, support Children of the American Revolution

Members of the Ohio Society Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, recently had the opportunity to attend and support, the Seventieth State Conference of the Ohio Society ~ Children of the American Revolution! The special event was held at the Rodeway Inn Rock Mill Conference Center, 1858 N. Memorial Drive, Lancaster, Ohio. Many persons attended from through out Ohio. I, myself, had the opportunity to attend and represent the Rufus Putnam Chapter, Ohio Society - Sons of the American Revolution, based in Zanesville, Ohio. The event was held on March 24 - 25, 2006, and I attended their formal awards banquet on Saturday - March 25 th. Among those attending and speaking were: Mrs. Marcia Seifert, State Regent of the Ohio Society - Daughters of the American Revolution, and Mr. Robert Parvin, President of the Ohio Society - Sons of the American Revolution, who awarded Miss Amanda Seely - President of the Ohio Society C.A.R., with an SAR / C.A.R. Bronze Medal of Appreciation.

Fort Laurens - Tomb of the Unknown Patriot

Compatriot Keith H. Kaufman, presents a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot, at Fort Laurens, near Bolivar, Ohio. Fort Laurens, was the only Revolutionary War Fort ..built in Ohio. Rufus Putnam Compatriot ~ Receives 25 Year Award

Rufus Putnam Chapter Compatriot - Tod Windsor, shown receiving his 25 Year SAR Membership Medal and Certificate. Compatriot Windsor resides in Coshocton, Ohio, and drove a long distance to attend our George Washington Birthday Celebration, which was held at the Clay Haus in Somerset, Ohio. It was a pleasure to present this long awaited award to Compatriot Tod Windsor.

After participating in the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade, on Saturday - October 22, 2005, members of the Ohio Society - Sons of the American Revolution who led the parade, were greeted by: Mrs. Ohio America 2005, Rhonda Shappert, at the conclusion of the Parade. Mrs. Shappert is also the Mayor of Commercial Point, Ohio.

The Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade .. was lead by members of the Ohio Society - Sons of the American Revolution .. on Saturday - October 22 nd., 2005. We marched for a crowd estimated to be over 100,000 persons. It was GREAT .. that we had the opportunity to lead the Parade! And we hope to also attend next years parade, as it will be the 100 th. year .. of this special parade! ALL of Ohio's Festival Queens were represented and we all got to have our picture taken with "Mrs. Ohio America", Mrs. Rhonda Shappert, who is the Mayor of Commercial Point, Ohio.

Rufus Putnam Chapter attends Re-dedication!

 Members of the Rufus Putnam Chapter, attend the re-dedication of the "Pennsylvania House", on Saturday - October 14, 2006. The Pennsylvania House is the only DAR Chapter Museum in Ohio, and is owned by the Lagonda Chapter - Ohio Society DAR, in Springfield, Ohio.
