The Kaufman's are active members of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, and enjoy period re-enacting. June Kaufman is a member of the Elizabeth Sherman Reese Chapter ~ Daughters of the American Revolution ( D.A.R.) in Lancaster, Ohio. Keith Kaufman is a member of the Rufus Putnam Chapter ~ Sons of the American Revolution (S.A.R.) in Zanesville, Ohio. SAR Compatriot Keith Kaufman, served as president of the Rufus Putnam Chapter from 2003 to 2006. While president .. the Rufus Putnam Chapter, Ohio Society SAR, was awarded the prestigious "President General's Chapter Activities Award", during the SAR National Congress in Dallas, Texas. (2006). Kaufman became a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (National Society S.A.R.) on June 21, 1999. Since then he has organized four SAR Patriot Grave Markings for Revolutionary War soldiers, and has worked with the Ohio Society - War of 1812 honoring a War of 1812 soldier. He also obtained and dedicated an Ohio Bicentennial Historical Marker (2003) honoring his Great Grandmother, Mariah Storts Allen, as Ohio's last surviving DAR "Real Daughter" of an American Revolutionary War soldier. And also organized the first SAR - DAR - C.A.R. ~ PAL-WOW, at Dawes Arboretum in Licking County, Ohio, in 2005. June Kaufman became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (National Society D.A.R.) on July 5, 2005. She joined the D.A.R. under Revolutionary War patriot ~ William Howell, who was a member of the Virginia Militia. She has since documented another patriot ancestor ~ Reverend John Marks. Reverend Marks was known to support the Revolutionary War from the Pulpit! He preached at the Ketoctin Baptist Church (Purcellville, Virginia). And is buried in the Ketoctin Cemetery behind the Ketoctin Baptist Church. (Ketoctin' is an Indian Word, Meaning "Tall Oaks".) There are many Oak Trees located around the Church and Cemetery. Keith Kaufman joined the Sons of the American Revolution under Revolutionary War patriot ~ John Jacob Storts, who was a Matross with the Pennsylvania Artillery. He has since documented another patriot ancestor ~ John Burkhardt / Burket, who was a member of Von Heers Light Dragoons. (Mounted - Army Military Police.) Patriot Burkhardt is Keith's G.G.G. Grandfather, and the father of Mary Ann Burket / Notestine / Storts, the second wife of John Jacob Storts (both Mary Ann and John Jacob Storts are buried at Bear Run Cemetery in Perry County, Ohio.) They are the parents of Mariah Storts Allen who is Ohio's last surviving DAR "Real Daughter" of an American Revolutionary War soldier. Keith Kaufman currently serves as Central District Chairman and DAR / C.A.R. Liaison, representing the Ohio Society SAR (First appointed by OHSSAR President, Paul M. Wilke, in May 2006, and again in May 2007, by OHSSAR President, Richard L. Fetzer.) Both appointments were an honor. The purposes of the Sons of the American Revolution are patriotic, historical, and educational. This includes: Promoting fellowship among their descendants. In the year 2006, Compatriot Keith Kaufman, also became the Senior State Chairman, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier representing the Ohio Society of the Children of the American Revolution. (C.A.R.) Both Keith and June enjoy attending C.A.R. programs! The Children of the American Revolution is the Oldest "Children's Patriotic Organization" in the United States of America. |
