I have no details other than those listed in this article, but I do remember speaking with Jack two years ago and inviting him to the 60th LRHS reunion activities. At that time he told me he attends activities of the 1947 LRHS class as those are the classmates he remembered most as he was a January, 1948 grad.
Jack and my husband, Charlie Butler, were close friends in East Side Jr. Hi and later at LRHS and he lived in North Little Rock as we do; but we rarely saw him in later years.
We will attend his funeral services and I will send condolences via the funeral home website.

It was a grand event by any measure. And, it was a ‘commencement’ of many categories for each of us as we began life beyond high school- college, work, marriage, families, and careers in just about any occupation you can name.
Today, our active Mailing List has the names of 344 classmates. Forty percent of those listed live in Arkansas. The rest are scattered all across our country, with one in the Virgin Islands, one in Jamaica, and one in Canada. The deceased list is growing.
Now, we are planning a 62nd reunion celebration in Little Rock on Thursday, June 10th and Friday, June 11th. We look forward to seeing and visiting with those who can and will attend this significant event.
We were fortunate to grow up in a special time and a special place called Little Rock. We were fortunate to have good teachers to prepare us for our futures, and we have passed on to our families the ‘lessons’ we learned in our formative years.
Take a moment today to remember our graduation day sixty-two years ago!

Currently, we have 55 persons registered to attend the Welcome Party, 62 persons registered to attend the Dutch Treat Dinner, and 61 persons registered to attend the Luncheon.
Some of our classmates have health issues; some have grandchildren graduating from college at the time of our reunion; and some are traveling.
If you have not already registered, or if you have not already told me that you cannot attend, this reminder may be helpful. If you will be with us in Little Rock, please let me know by JUNE 1st, so that I can prepare a name badge for you, and provide a count for Mimi's Cafe and the Pleasant Valley Country Club on a timely basis.
Flo and I will drive to Little Rock, leaving Vienna, Virginia, on June 5th, and make stops along the way. We will be in LR by June 8th.
Best wishes to all.

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Charles "Skip" Churchwell. He died in Springfield, Missouri at a hospital where he had recently been admitted following a stroke. His home address was 15 Mildenhall Drive, Bella Vista, AR 72714.
An obituary will be posted in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette in next day or so, and residents who live in the Little Rock area may want to watch for it.
In our high school days, the Class Yearbook cited that Skip was a member of the Board of Governors for the Campus Inn at LRHS, Student Body President, and a member of the National Honor Society. Also, he was active in sports.

Hello Classmates and Friends –
We have planned a reunion to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of our graduation from Little Rock High School. We will meet in Little Rock in June.
Our first activity will be a ‘Welcoming Party’ on Thursday, June 10th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Best Western Governors Suites, at 1501 Merrill Drive. This will be a time for early visits with those classmates who live out of town and as well as those who reside in the greater Little Rock area. This is not a luncheon but we will have light refreshments.
On Thursday evening, June 10th, we will have a Dutch treat dinner at Mimi’s Café, 11725 Chenal Parkway at 6 p.m. The Café has reserved the Garden Room for us that has a seating capacity for 85. Although you will not need to make a specific reservation, we will need to provide a number of expected attendees, let us know if you plan to join us for this event.
On Friday, June 11th, we will have a luncheon at the Pleasant Valley Country Club, One Pleasant Valley Drive at noon. We will have a brief program and lots of opportunity to visit with one another. Name tags and luncheon tickets can be picked 'up in the Club lobby beginning at 11 a.m.
Enclosed is a Registration form for you to complete and return at an early date. If you cannot attend, please send us a note. We want to hear from you. Our program will have a segment entitled, ‘Notes from Classmates’ so that our lifelong friends will know where you are and how you are doing.
If you wish to make a contribution toward the reunion expenses, please include your donation with your registration check. We appreciate your help.
I am serving as the Communication Volunteer. Let us hear from you at your earliest convenience. Tom Curry, Neil Dobbins, Dale Diffie and others are part of our Reunion Committee. We seek your help, too, so tell us if we can add your name to our list of volunteers.
Thank you.

V. Poindexter Fiser sent to me an obituary for Kenneth F. Thompson, who died December 3, 2009, in Sandy, Utah. The obit appeared in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette on Thursday, January 7, 2010. It stated that Kenneth was a graduate of the Class of 1947, but that is an error; he graduated in May 1948 and his picture is in our yearbook.
Kenneth was among the 'lost' persons from our class mailing list.
The obit reads as follows:
Kenneth F. Thompson, of Sandy, Utah, formerly of Little Rock, died December 3, 2009. Born in Cabot, Arkansas, January 31, 1930, he graduated from Little Rock High School in 1947 with a music scholarship to the University of Arkansas.
Mr. Thompson was a concert pianist and organist, a church organist, piano teacher, and piano tuner.
He was preceded (in death) by his parents Henry and Alice Thompson; and survived by his wife, Peggy Thompson; sons Albert Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia, Benjamin Thompson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a brother Don Thompson of Glendale, California; two sisters, Jo Ann Mason of Kimberling City, Missouri, and Jeannette Chandler of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Little Rock, January 8, 2010.
Memorials may be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church or Intermountain Hospice Care (801) 507-7000.

Paul,
I see the reference to Alma on the Lost/Found and it is dated 11/11/01. I am sorry but that would have been on my "old" computer and those files did not transfer to my new computer last year. I did not keep any copies of my messages to Ray.
I used to be able to remember important things like this in the past but no more. I have to write everything down now and then sometimes I forget where I put it.
It is like the senior that asked for a senior discount on a purchase. The clerk asked for his ID and then gave him $ 1.47 back. The senior asked what was that for.....the clerk said that is your discount. The senior asked "what discount".
I saw a baseball style cap advertised the other day that had on the front "did you give me my senior discount". That must have been made for us that forget!
I am sorry that I cannot help you. If Ray cannot shed any light on this...........maybe we should delete this from the LRHS site.
In your spare time.........drop by Penn. Avenue and see if you can help our President. He needs a lot of help.

In our continuing quest to locate 'lost' and 'missing' classmates, Bert Parke inquired about Edgar O'Hair, whose last known address was Lubbock, Texas.
Edgar graduated from West Point. I checked the www.anywho.com phone book and no record. Then, I checked www.google.com and found that Edgar had been a professor of Engineering at Texas Tech University and had co-authored at least one highly technical book. I telephoned the Department of Engineering at Tech and spoke to a secretary. She said that her recordsshow that Edgar died and but she did not have his last address. I checked www.ancestry.com and the Social Security Death Index and found the following: Edgar Allen O’Hair, born September 6, 1930, died October 18, 2007, last known address Cody, Wyoming ZIP 82414. That was a big year for Ed as he also met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Markus. A year later, they celebrated the birth of their first born, Karen.
Ed went on to earn a master's degree in engineering science at Purdue University where his second child, Mark, was born. This was followed by a stint at West Point as an instructor where final child John was born.
While at West Point he earned a doctor of engineering mechanics degree from Columbia University. At this point in his career he decided to cross over to the Air Force to continue in research and development.
He was sent back to Purdue to finish his Ph.D. and afterward instructed at the Air Force Academy. He retired from the Air Force as a colonel in 1974 and moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where he was an assistant laboratory director for one of the Los Alamos National Laboratory sites. After three years there he moved to Butte, Mont., and became an associate director of the Montana Energy Research and Development Institute.
A few years later, he again entered the teaching field as a professor of electrical engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He retired after 21 years and was awarded the distinction of Professor Emeritus.
It was while he was at Texas Tech that he and his wife happened to visit Cody in the 1990s. They fell in love with the area and eventually decided to make Cody their home when Ed retired. After spending eight summers visiting Cody, they built a home and moved here in 2000.

Your copy 'bounced' perhaps due to some 'spam' or other control. Hope this copy reaches you. Best regards. Paul - - - - - - - - TODAY is the 61st anniversary of the graduation for the May Class of 1948 from Little Rock High School. May 28, 1948 was a great day for us in Little Rock. The weather was beautiful, typical for the spring in pleasant Arkansas. We wore caps and gowns and did not seem overheated in that 'huge' stadium behind the school. Our families and friends were there with us for the 'Commencement Exercises. The processional was the "Grand March" by Schmidt, played by the high school band. With the presentation of flags, the band, chorus, graduates, and the audience joined in singing 'America, the Beautiful'. Principal J. W. Matthews, in his message to seniors in the class yearbook, said "You as seniors are entering a world that is in a very unstable condition. The recent conflict embracing all races, colors, and creeds has created world-wide problems that you, as citizens of a working democracy will have to face". Additionally, he stated that 'The practice of democratic principles requires patience, tolerance, intelligence, and the will to work for the good of all". His words would be suitable the current graduating class. Certainly, many years have passed since we 'commenced' our lives in various careers and in various places in and beyond the borders of the Little Rock that we knew so well. However, we have not forgotten the benefits received at LRHS and the opportunity to grow up in a world with a much slower pace than today. On this 'special' day, please take a moment to acknowledge the 61st anniversary. Next year, we plan to hold a 62nd anniversary reunion in Little Rock, on a date to be announced early in 2010. We hope that you will attend. Best wishes. Paul D.
