I was checking the Obits for our reunion and noticed Wilson Tigers did not list Oley E.Rooker as Passed on to play football with his Coach Wilson Matthews, on May 23, 2009. He also has a dedication of a new Library in his neighborhood. This Library will be named OLEY E. ROOKER library. I might add a park is encluded with the Library. I am sure the Recorder of the Wilson Tigers was just in error because of old age like the rest of us. I do not know their recorder. They are to have a meeting in August. I will be attending and Hopeful they will vote on The Wilson Life History , written and photgraphed by our own Tiger--Bill Wright. As you know he has written the novel while Coach was alive, and praised Bill for the novel as we called it ,but this is furthur history. If you would post this I would appreciate the notice. I might add this was on Oley Rookers Bucket List, to get the History of Coach Wilson in the Hall of Fame by the VOTE of the Wilson Tigers.

I received this from Carolyn (Besancon) Ringer last night. - - Pat O'Donoghue

Friends -
Tried to call Betty and then her daughter and got no answer. Just in case, called Baptist Springhill in NLR and, sure enough, she is a patient there. She is in the Clinical Decision Unit. I went to see her this afternoon and she is, as always, in good spirits, but pretty weak. Night before last, her blood pressure started to zoom and her daughter took her to the hospital yesterday morning. They have gotten her bp to lower gradually from 204 upper number to 161 last count. Since the weekend is upon us, nothing will probably be done prior to Monday - except perhaps making some determinations as to what treatment she may face on Monday. We just need to keep her in our prayers until she is out of the woods. Thought you guys would like to know as much as I do. Love, Carolyn

Over his 20 years in the Air Force he took, developed, and framed his pictures from all over the world, including Korea, Alaska, throughout Europe and the American West. Now he is concentrating on the American South and Midwest in some beautiful collections. He's sent us the site below to view his new book "Walk Through Bethlehem." Also, you can take a look at the re-publication of his beautiful "Arkansas and Missouri Reflections." Surely hope you like seeing them and perhaps may even like to have them. I just got a call from Oley. Betty Brooks has had a stroke, and is in Baptist Hosp. in No. L. R. She can't have visitors or calls. She called Oley because she knew his cell number. She said she was given 3 choices: Go to a nursing home, have her daughter and her husband move in with her. or have surgery on her carotid artery.... which would be very dangerous. They will be making the choice probably tomorrow. (You know Brooks!!!! She is leaning toward the surgery!!!)

The Blacklaws are calling some people who don't have email, so if you know someone who doesn't please call them. Right now, there is nothing we can do, but pray. Oley will be back in touch tomorrow after he goes to check on her with the family and hosp staff.

Ray,

I am not sure if I am doing this correctly or not, but I wanted to let the class of 1947 know that my sister, Ethelyn Hester McKinney,Class of 1947, is celebrating her 80th birthday on March 9th. I would appreciate her classmates sending her birthday cards at the following address: Ethelyn Hester McKinney, 9 Westmont Circle, Little Rock, AR 72209. Is this posting a possibility?

Thanks, Geraldine Hester Maddox, Class of 1950

Hi Betty, it's Pat,

I am afraid that David and I will not make the LRHS Day at the Track again this year. His pain condition has worsened to the point that walking is almost impossible for him, and sitting is not much better. The most recent diagnosis is vasculitis which is one of the following (I can never remember which)

1. an inflammation of the blood vessel on the nerve, or

2. an inflammation of the nerve on the blood vessel. I never knew that either had the other.

Either way, the relief he gets from the bi-weekly IV steroids is minimal and fading. They are going to start him on weekly steroids next week (we hope) and chemo (Cytoxan by IV) once a month. It's not a good time to be making trips. We will try again next year. His basic plan is to outlive all of you, so be forewarned take care of yourselves

Ray,

Unfortunately, I did not get the thing about the menu. I guess it was an attachment. I don't remember the menu, but I do remember that Woolworth's always had in their candy departments huge slabs of thick chocolate behind glass. I don't remember how much it was. I think it was sold by the pound, and I was only able to buy candy by the piece with my 15 cents a week allowance. I usually spent that at movies, The ticket was a dime and popcorn was a nickel. I am still in severe pain. My diagnosis is vasculitis. Currently I am on IV steroids. Next week or so they will start treating it with chemo, Cytoxan by IV, once a month. Hope it works. I still go to the gym as much as I can, 4 or 5 days a week. The bad thing is that I am afraid to leave Houston for fear of having a pain attack in some remote place. It would be to far away from the VA for them to bury me.

Dave
