55th Class '50 REUNION
TIGER TALES
By Betty Brooks (Yarbrough)

Get out the Calendar: 2006.   We will have a 1950 LRHS REUNION get together next year. We will try and see how many people will come. Some say want be enough to pay for the building rent. It is up to you all. I have reservation for the Burns Park Hospitality House (same as the 55th reunion). It is for the 1st Friday in May 2006 -- MAY 5, 2006 -- We can kick-off at 1 PM and go to 10 PM. We will be looking forward to seeing you all. I think we should call it the family reunion. We still have things to talk about and I am sure -- I missed some necks to hung! I missed half of the stories of Ed Saunders childhood. We will have some surprises, more door prizes. Edna Lou and Freda can start now looking for the good deals.

Also, we are going on a trip of our life time. We the Traveling Tigers are going to Australia/New Zealand. All excited and saving our money for 2006. We will leave in July (Fall in Australia) temperature 60 (light jacket), perfect time (also less expensive). The date and time is schedule to be printed June 2005. That is the reason I do not have the date. Please order the tour book--Grand Circle Travel -- www.get.com> -- or 1-800-597-2452 option # 3, our group number 0041783, contact person Dee Dee (our Reservation leader). People express a desire to go: Betty Brooks, Faye Gaspard, Albert Blacklaw, Betty Blacklaw, Billy Phelps, Lynn Phelps, Carolyn Beascon Ringer, Edna Lou Brodnax Green, Barbara Carter Clark, Bill Clark, Fred Cazort, Pat Cazort, Fred Dudek, Mavis Dudek, Carolyn Fiddler Lancaster, Harry Abbott, Joan Robinson Boles, Bob Scroggs, Eleanor Sch imek Mitchell, Wanda Timmings Shipman, Pat Nash, John Nash, James Sewell, Charlotte Hunter Sewell, Betty Isgrig, Radine Miller Clark, William Hastings, Pat Hastings, Jim Purvis, Joyce Handwork Purvis, Carolyn Tull Hanson, and you.

We have some from out of town but we will get a package price. As anything we do -- we have fun-please contact me 107 Sunset Drive, North Little Rock, Ar. 72118 -- 501-758-5781 -- byarbrou2@juno.com. Wouldn't it be great to fill the plane -- We could really have a bingo game. Our deposit is $350.00 with several early discounts. You will need a passport and Visa. The Grand Circle will get our Visa ... departure taxes, port charges, surcharges and government fees are not part of the tour price and will billed separate on your invoice. Remember we will go over the date line going and recoup it coming back.

Now for the 55th Reunion. About 90 came and lots of classmates from other classes. We were so happy to see them. The Burns Hospitality House was a perfect meeting place. Plenty of time, tables and chairs to set and visit. William Westbook and Shirley (his wife) came from Atlanta Georgia. Texas was well represented ... David Powell, Pat Powell, Ken Carter, Mary Lou Carter, Tom Lane, Al Heiman and Darlene Heiman .... From Penn. was Jennelle Rye (Hoffert), Carolyn Tull, N.C., Charlotte Hunter Sewell, James Sewell, Nashville, TN., Fred and Pat Cazort, Knoxville, TN. and, and LR/NLR. William Haynes and Glenna Moore were a welcome sight.. Oley Rooker and Johnny Walker picked up Robie Irwin from the Nursing Home, and he really enjoyed the outing. I should have said sign in, so I can remember where you came from afar.

We had Catfish with all the trimmings plus Chicken fingers. After breaking bread we joined in singing the old songs by Karoke. Believe me Miss Pinkie would have been proud. The star was Ben Wright. Yes, he played that trumpet for us and tears came to my eyes. He is the best -- Al Hirt eat your heart out!

It was a free afternoon to visit the old haunts of yesterday years. New trolley over the Main Street bridge then a left on Markham to the Presidential Library. History was made. There is a lot of History in the making in LR/NLR for everyone to see. They said they didn't have time to see it .... all and will be back in 2006.

The Dinner and Dance was perfect. The food was good and the room was cozy, just big enough for us to be comfortable. Archie Senn played the flute and Sax. You would have thought he was 20 years old. He played with the Al Binder Band, sounded like the Big Bands of long ago. We could just listen to them all night. Between the coffee and deserts, Edna Lou and Freda gave 30 door prizes. Anne Dougan Hanna (past owner) of Hanna Candles, brought each one a candle to take home. She also donated door prizes. Edna Lou and Freda had shopped until they dropped. The orchid Flower, nicely potted, with gorgeous blooms. Eleanor Shimek Mitchel donated. Wanda Timmings Shipman bracelet was neat, too. I think both were the biggest hit. The decorations of the table were outstanding. Betty Pilcher Blacklaw and Al had out did it their self. Toy Tigers were all over the tables setting on Black and gold boxes. On each table was a two page list of the 1950 Classmate obituaries, tied with a black ribbon. We honored the Obit of 1950 by having them joined us in our reunion. It was a great success and sad. We knew that there would be some more names that join the list for next year.

These pictures were taken at Class '55th Reunion. The first five were shot at Burns Park. Carolyn Ringer scanned, cropped, ID them all to be put on 55th Reunion Page! And, Betty Brooks (Yarbrough) worked with Carolyn. They had a great time picking out the pictures to send, and at the 55th Class Reunion itself!

EDITOR'S NOTE -- Tommie Herndon made a CD disk of pictures for Betty Brooks (Yarbrough) and she mail them here of 55th Reunion for LRHS Website. There are many pictures, and they will be put up on the Website a few at a time, of course. You will have to identify the people in the pictures.
