EDITOR's NOTE -- Betty Brooks (Yarbrough) sent this article of Class 50 Wedding and she mailed the pictures that follow.

The 1950 Wedding

The event of the year that everyone has been waiting for was as good as the "Rich and Famous". When two people from LRHS, meet at a 1950 Class Reunion in the year 2000, then really got together at the 2003 The Combo Reunion, it is has to be the best news of the century.

On Saturday, November 22, 2003, 5:30 PM, Second Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas; a Christian Marriage of Don Mark Wardlaw and Mabian Cooke Sloan was united as one.

The bride was dressed in the softest mauve pink dress, with flowing handkerchief skirt, an envelope collar, and with a sash tied at the waist, the bride was really beautiful. The groom quite handsomely, as always. was dressed in his Preacher Dark Blue Suit. Both were a joy to watch as they said their wedding vowels and placed the rings on each others fingers..... The family of both sides were present. On Dons' left side of the aisle was his family from Atlantic, Georgia; Coralville, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois and Tyler, Texas. They came from far and wide. The music in this wedding service was really special. Don wrote the poetry and Dr. Northway, composed most of the music. Mabian side of the Church was filled with out towners too, of family and friends (Nashville, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas). All came to see the bride and groom, to be joined as Mr and Mrs.

The wedding started at 5 PM and ended at 7:30 PM.. Our own 1950 Grad , James Hart (Clovis, New Mexico) served as a Communion Usher. The other guest from LRHS was Phil Dixion, Edna Lou Brodnax (Green), Freda Palmer (Graham), Phobe Darby (Norman), Mary Jane Fuller (Bracy) Bill Mayer, Lynn Babcock (Craig), Mary "Brownie" Williams, Joe Bates, and Betty Brooks.

A grand reception was at the Womens Civic Center at 4th and Scott, Little Rock. The ball room was filled with a beautiful center piece on each table and the buffet was laden with delicious food. The Band played in the background and the Dancers were whirling around as we arrived. As we waited for Mr. and Mrs Wardlaw to appear, we of 1950 visited. We all decided we must attend the next reunion which will be in 2005. Then Mr and Mrs Wardlaw appeared and flashes of people taking pictures of the "Young Couple", filled the room. You must attend in 2005--As Don said, to give everyone this message, " tell everyone Class Reunions are the best thing that has happen to me. You have to come to the next one!!!!!!!!

Yes I am home. Came in August 10th. I had a Breath taking vacations. I have not come down yet. If you ask about my out North West experience, I can talk for a hour. "I felt like a country girl came to town"

While I was gone, toodling around the Wide open spaces, William Westbrook came to town. Naturally I did not see him but several of the Classmates got a call from him. It seems William and Shirley, his wife, were looking at Hot Springs village for a home to buy. Now tell me that is not good news.

The sad news. We lost one more class mate. Carolyn Harney (Bransheau), 115 Seneca Place, Jacksonville, Ar. died Saturday, August 7, 2004. I really was sorry I was out of town. I remember her real well. She was best friends with Betty Nell Stevens, Pauline Melton, and Carolyn Rinkie. Each one has gone to a better place and they are now celebrating together. Just imagine that reunion. I bet your ears are burning. I know, mine are.

Billy Walthall's brother, Jimmy died while I was gone. Billy's address is 5312 Swisher, Cleaves, OH 45002

Charles Keck son died in California. Charles is Earl Keck's brother.

Do not for get August 27, a Friday at 11:00 am we will eating at the restaurant in the Art Galleries, McArthur Park..

This is extremely hard for me to write to you this news. As you know Oley Rooker and his wife Meredith have been part of the backbone in ever planning of the reunions are any help we needed through money or just work. Just call Oley and he would come through. He visited the hospital, Nursing Homes, your home, when a LRHS Classmate was ill. He could cheer you up with his foolish sayings.--Monday the Doctor told him he has cancer of the prostrate and it has spread outside of the prostrates. Therefore he can not plant the seeds or operate. He starts chemo in two weeks. At the time he is in shock as we all are to hear this. Please keep them in your prayers and give him a call and cards. Update on Preston is he is weaker every day. He can hardly whisper on the phone.
