After defeating Tri-Valley last night, New Lexington coach Bill Nutt became only the 8th person in MVL history to earn 50 league victories as a head coach. Achieving this milestone, Nutt joins such greats as Paul Culver, Sam Hatfield, and Jim Rockwell on the 50 win list. Through the course of this season, Nutt surpassed Jim Boyden (46), Mike Strohl (47), Bill Hartmeyer (48) and Jim Sprague (49) on the all-time win list.

While 50 league wins is a feat worthy of recognition in itself, it is well worth noting that coach Nutt has reached 50 wins in fewer games than any of his predecessors. Nutt's 50th victory came in his 67th outing. Compare that to John Kelley's 73, Jim Rockwell's 74 and Sam Hatfield's 81.

While Tri-Valley wound up on the losing end last night, they have not found themselves in that position often this year. In his breakthrough season, coach Justin Buttermore reached the 10 league win mark in his 23rd outing. If 23 games seems like a long time to reach 10 wins, keep in mind that many a legendary coach has gotten off to a less than spectacular start: Coach Rockwell reached 10 wins in his 20th outing and it took Paul Culver 33 league games to win his 10th.

Also of note, John Kelley grabbed his 70th league win earlier this year, and will end up just behind Homer Weekley on the all time win list at the close of this season.
