Friday night we saw the mighty Muskies of John Glenn fall 14-7 to West Muskingum. The Muskies had looked well on their way to a 10-0 season out of the gate, but a perfect season was not in the cards for the gang from New Concord. Many sounded off on the MVL Forum, expressing their respect for West Muskingum, and several lamenting sincerely the loss of hope for a perfect season. One poster, in particular, pondered in earnest if he would see a perfect 10-0 season from his beloved Muskies in his lifetime. Others consoled this poor fellow, reminding him that a perfect season is truly a special thing.

A special thing it is indeed. In the nearly seventy years since the start of MVL football there have been only twenty-seven perfect regular seasons for teams from the league, which averages out to about one perfect season every 3 years for the league, and about one perfect season every generation per team. So the 25-year wait for John Glenn may signal to some that they are about due.

The Little Muskies have had four perfect regular seasons since becoming a member of the MVL. One of those seasons, 1956, saw the Muskies not only go undefeated and untied, but they also never allowed a score from their opponents.

Only New Lexington and Sheridan have had more prefect seasons as MVL members, New Lex has seven while Sheridan stakes claim to five. Crooksville also has four, followed by Morgan with 3; West Muskingum & Philo with 2. Maysville and Tri-Valley have never had perfect football seasons as MVL members.
